HERIT ADAPT took part in the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF-HELEXPO), one of Greece’s major meeting points for innovation, technology, research, entrepreneurship, and international cooperation. The Fair took place from 5 to 13 September 2026, bringing together businesses, organisations, researchers, and visitors from Greece and beyond, creating a vibrant setting for sharing ideas and exploring new approaches to sustainable development.
On 10 September, our partner Industrial Systems Institute of the Research Centre ATHENA brought HERIT ADAPT into this conversation through the presentation “Resilience and Sustainable Development in Territories Characterised by Cultural Heritage Assets,” delivered by Principal Researcher Dr. Georgios Mylonas.
The presentation focused on a question at the heart of HERIT ADAPT: how can digital innovation help cultural heritage territories become more resilient to climate pressures while supporting sustainable tourism?
One answer can be found high in the mountains of Western Greece, at the Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located at an altitude of 1,130 metres. This site is one of the project’s pilot areas, where digital technologies were explored not only as tools for documentation, but as practical instruments for conservation and new visitor experiences.
At this pilot site the HERIT ADAPT team combined drone photogrammetry and AI-driven processing to work towards a full digital twin of the temple. These developments are already contributing to conservation planning, while opening new possibilities for people to discover and experience one of Greece’s most remarkable and remote ancient monuments.
