HERIT ADAPT Project

HERIT ADAPT “Heritage and Territory Resilience through Sustainable Tourism, Climate Change Adaptation and Citizen Engagement” is an EU co-funded project that promotes cooperation among public authorities, cultural heritage managers, researchers and local stakeholders to strengthen the resilience of cultural and natural heritage through sustainable tourism and climate adaptation.

During its Test phase, HERIT ADAPT developed, tested and validated the Testing and Demonstration Methodology and the HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Model in 9 Euro-MED regions, including UNESCO sites and lesser-known heritage locations.

HERIT ADAPT plus, the project’s Transfer phase, supports the adaptation and transfer of this proven methodology to new territories across the Euro-MED region, helping build more sustainable, resilient and climate-ready tourism destinations.

Focus

HERIT ADAPT focuses on helping cultural and natural heritage destinations respond to climate change and tourism pressures by combining digital innovation, stakeholder collaboration and citizen engagement, to shape more sustainable tourism approaches and enhance destination resilience.

Building on lessons learned during the Test phase, HERIT ADAPT plus focuses on adapting and transferring its methodology to new territories, supporting its uptake and integration into policy and local practice.
