HERIT ADAPT featured in Peloponnisos Newspaper, Greece

15/04/2026
In a recent interview with Peloponnisos Newspaper, Dr. Athanasios Kalogeras from the Industrial Systems Institute/ ATHENA Research Center, explains how emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and digital twins, are redefining the way heritage is documented, preserved, and accessed.

In this context, he presents HERIT ADAPT as a leading example of this shift toward data-driven and digitally enhanced cultural management. A central focus of the feature is the project’s work on the Temple of Epicurean Apollo. Using advanced algorithms and 3D modelling techniques, researchers are able to reconstruct the monument digitally, offering a clear view of its original form by filtering out later interventions. This approach not only supports scientific study but also improves conservation planning and decision-making.

Beyond research, the project demonstrates tangible benefits for society. Digital representations enable remote access to heritage sites, making them more widely accessible while helping to protect physically sensitive locations. At the same time, these tools enhance visitor engagement and open up new possibilities for cultural tourism.

The strong collaborative framework behind HERIT ADAPT is also highlighted, bringing together experts from research, engineering, and the cultural sector. This interdisciplinary cooperation ensures that technological solutions are practical, relevant, and aligned with real-world heritage needs.
