As part of the 4th La Pileta Conference, Valentín Molina, Professor at the University of Granada, delivered a presentation on the objectives and strategies developed within the Interreg Euro-MED HERIT ADAPT project, focusing on the creation of sustainable cultural tourism models for territories that possess significant historical heritage but remain largely overlooked by mainstream tourism.
During his presentation, he highlighted the need to diversify tourist flows currently concentrated in heavily visited sites such as the Alhambra, promoting alternative cultural routes towards lesser-known areas such as the Poniente Granadino region. In this context, he emphasized the potential of the Nasrid defensive system as a territorial backbone, with particular attention to the watchtowers as heritage assets capable of connecting landscapes, history, and local communities.
He also presented the initiative “The Voice of the Towers”, aimed at enhancing the value and visibility of this defensive heritage through innovative interpretation and communication strategies. The initiative contributes to strengthening territorial identity while fostering a more balanced, sustainable, and heritage-conscious tourism model.
