Following its successful Testing phase across 9 regions in Greece, Italy, Croatia, Cyprus, Montenegro, Spain, France and Bulgaria, HERIT ADAPT has been selected as one of the projects funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme under the “Fast Lane” procedure to continue into the 21-month Transfer phase, starting on 1 July 2026.
Building on its achievements, HERIT ADAPT plus will focus on transferring and adapting its validated Sustainable Tourism Model and Testing & Demonstration Methodology to new territories across the Euro-MED region. Rather than developing new tools, the project will support local authorities, cultural heritage managers and tourism stakeholders in applying proven approaches to strengthen climate resilience, protect cultural and natural heritage, and promote more sustainable tourism practices.
During the Testing phase, HERIT ADAPT successfully demonstrated innovative solutions, including digital modelling, immersive technologies, AI-supported storytelling and data-driven monitoring systems, while engaging local communities through interdisciplinary Territorial Working Groups. These solutions were designed to improve decision-making, enhance visitor experiences and reduce pressures on heritage sites.
The new phase brings together experienced “giver” partners and new “receiver” partners from Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, North Macedonia and Albania, and supported by 28 Associated Partners from across the Mediterranean.
By expanding its reach to new regions and governance contexts, HERIT ADAPT plus aims to make sustainable, climate-resilient heritage management a reality for more communities across the Mediterranean, ensuring that cultural and natural heritage continues to thrive.
The new partnership consists of the following members:
- Region of Western Greece (Lead Partner) – Greece
- ATHENA Research and Innovation Centre in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies – Greece
- European Public Law Organisation (EPLO) – Greece
- Sapienza University of Rome – Italy
