Sapienza University of Rome hosted the international workshop Design Your Roman Holiday, bringing together 34 students, local residents, and international tourists to co-create innovative solutions for a more sustainable and climate-resilient urban environment.
The workshop focused on the Celio neighbourhood, where the HERIT ADAPT pilot is located, and explored how the area could evolve into an effective climate refuge through a network of small, distributed interventions. Participants worked collaboratively to identify practical strategies that improve thermal comfort, enhance public spaces, and strengthen the neighbourhood’s attractiveness for both residents and visitors while preserving its unique cultural heritage.
By combining local knowledge with international perspectives, the workshop generated a range of creative ideas for adapting historic urban areas to the challenges of climate change. The proposed solutions highlighted the potential of low-impact, place-based interventions to improve environmental quality, encourage sustainable tourism, and increase the resilience of one of Rome’s most iconic neighbourhoods.
