On 30 June 2026, Ana García López, researcher at the University of Granada and member of the European project HERIT ADAPT, was interviewed on Hoy por Hoy Granada, one of the flagship programmes of Cadena SER, to present the audiovisual series The Voice of the Towers, developed within the framework of the project to promote the defensive heritage of the municipalities of Íllora, Moclín and Montefrío through innovative heritage interpretation and communication strategies.
During the interview, Ana García López explained how the series emerged from the objectives of HERIT ADAPT, a European project focused on developing innovative solutions for climate change adaptation in cultural heritage and promoting more sustainable tourism models. Within the Andalusian pilot site, the initiative aims to encourage a more balanced distribution of visitor flows by complementing the intense tourism pressure experienced by the Alhambra with new cultural routes leading to lesser-known heritage sites across the surrounding territory.
The interview highlighted how The Voice of the Towers combines audiovisual storytelling with digital technologies to create an emotional connection between visitors and cultural heritage. Through a fictional narrative inspired by documented historical events, the five-episode series explores the Nasrid defensive system, the daily life of medieval watchtower guards, and the strategic importance of the watchtower network that protected the western frontier of the Kingdom of Granada.
Beyond its audiovisual value, the series was presented as a heritage interpretation tool designed to strengthen the relationship between history and contemporary tourism experiences. Throughout the episodes, viewers discover cultural itineraries, traditional gastronomy, landscapes, and heritage resources that can still be visited today, encouraging a more sustainable and geographically distributed model of cultural tourism.
The interview also emphasised the close collaboration established with the municipalities of Íllora, Montefrío and Moclín, the Vega Sierra Elvira Consortium, together with numerous local associations and community stakeholders whose involvement has been essential for the successful development of the project.
