“La voz de las torres” premiered at Íllora Castle: bringing Granada’s heritage to life through digital innovation

16/06/2026

On 16 June 2026, in the unique setting of the Castle of Íllora, the University of Granada premiered “La voz de las torres”, an innovative digital storytelling experience developed within the framework of the HERIT ADAPT project. Set within one of Granada’s most emblematic medieval fortresses, the event marked a new way of experiencing the region’s defensive heritage through digital tools, immersive storytelling, and sustainable tourism approaches.

The event brought together citizens, local authorities, representatives of the Provincial Council of Granada, the municipalities of Íllora, Moclín, and Montefrío, the Consorcio Vega Sierra Elvira, the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, as well as cultural and social organisations from across the region, reflecting the growing cooperation among the municipalities of the Poniente Granadino area, united by their shared heritage.

The audience attended the premiere of the first four chapters of “La voz de las torres”, an audiovisual series that follows the network of Nasrid watchtowers and castles, linking the fortifications of Íllora, Moclín, and Montefrío with the Torre de la Vela of the Alhambra. Through carefully crafted narratives and visual storytelling, the series invites visitors to rediscover a cultural landscape that often remains outside traditional tourism routes.

Alongside the screening, the University of Granada presented a broader digital tourism strategy developed for the territory featuring guided itineraries, interactive elements, rewards, and a tourist passport, encouraging visitors to discover lesser-known heritage sites. By combining historical research, storytelling, artificial intelligence, and digital tools, the platform offers new ways to explore and understand the region’s medieval heritage while supporting a more balanced distribution of tourism flows across the province of Granada, enhancing engagement with rural and cultural destinations.
