Info Day and Citizen Science in Koprivshtitsa: celebrating Heritage and Innovation

09/04/2026
On 3 March 2026, Bulgaria’s National Day, the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria held an info day and citizen science campaign in Koprivshtitsa as part of the municipality’s official Liberation Day celebrations, bringing together institutions, citizens, and key stakeholders while generating strong public interest.

The event held special symbolic value, as the Bulgarian pilot site of the HERIT ADAPT project, the Mausoleum-Ossuary, stands as a powerful monument to national memory, dedicated to the heroes of the April Uprising. Within this historic setting, the project presented its vision for safeguarding cultural heritage through sustainable and forward-looking approaches.

Participants, including representatives from local authorities, cultural institutions, civil society, and national bodies, had the opportunity to explore the project’s activities and innovative tools. These included a detailed 3D model of the mausoleum and an immersive 360° virtual tour, showcasing how digital technologies can support the preservation and promotion of heritage sites.

The campaign also encouraged dialogue on long-term sustainability and the need to adapt cultural heritage to contemporary challenges. By engaging a wide audience, the event reinforced the importance of collective responsibility and active community involvement in protecting and promoting cultural heritage for future generations.
