HERIT ADAPT on Canal Sur Radio’s “Mediodía Granada”: AI, heritage storytelling and sustainable tourism

02/03/2026
On 11 November 2025, HERIT ADAPT was featured on Mediodía Granada, a flagship general-interest programme of Canal Sur Radio with a broad regional audience. In this interview, Dr. Ana García López presented the project’s innovative proposal to connect the Alhambra with the rural heritage landscapes of Moclín, Montefrío and Íllora through their historic watchtowers.

The discussion highlighted how HERIT ADAPT aims to redistribute tourist pressure from saturated areas—especially the Alcazaba of the Alhambra—towards lesser-known territories that played a crucial role in the final chapter of Al-Andalus. Dr. García López explained the project’s novel use of AI-generated audiovisual storytelling, including a hyper-realistic animated documentary inspired by “Game of Thrones”, designed to spotlight local routes, gastronomy, crafts and cultural identity.

The interview also traced the project’s origins back to earlier research on climate change impacts on cultural heritage and Mediterranean tourism pressures. Additionally, Dr. García López described ongoing work at the University of Granada’s Chair for Innovation in Crafts, Design and Contemporary Art, including a new collaboration with the Royal Tapestry Factory of Spain.

A public presentation of the project’s first teaser was announced for 17 November at the Hospital Real.
