17/10/2024

👉🏼 At the HERIT ADAPT Kick-off Conference on Thursday, October 17th, 2024, held at the Archaeological Museum of Patras, the Deputy Governor of Tourism Development of Western Greece, Panagiotis Sakellaropoulos, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts, stating:

“We are working together to ensure a sustainable future for our cultural and, by extension, our tourism heritage.

Tourism and culture are two sides of the same coin, where one supports the other. The project ‘HERIT ADAPT’ is an ambitious European initiative aimed at strengthening the resilience of our cultural heritage against the impacts of climate change and mass tourism. Today, we will have the opportunity to be informed about the progress of the project, as well as the contributions and capital offered by other significant related European programs, also conducted under the auspices of the Western Greece Region.”

👉🏼 The Deputy Governor of Culture, Mr. Panagiotis Bramos, also attended the Kick-off Conference of the Interreg Euro-Med, HERIT ADAPT project. He addressed the challenges posed by mass tourism, stating:

“Mass tourism is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it brings significant economic benefits, but on the other, it can pose a threat to both our cultural and natural heritage if not managed properly. Our aim, through initiatives like HERIT ADAPT, is to find the right balance. We want to protect our heritage from the pressures of mass tourism while ensuring that the tourism sector continues to thrive in a sustainable manner. This project is a step towards that goal, by helping us adapt and prepare for the challenges ahead.”
